Bio for Dr. Bickerton
I was born and raised in Virginia , just outside Washington D.C. . Along with my brother and sister we spent most of our younger lives there. When I was of age I joined the military for a stint with the Navy Seabees. These land based construction battalions plant themselves in various parts of the world and build everything the military needs. What an adventure. After my enlistment I moved to Florida , another beautiful state. I spent 10 years there living on both coasts. Here is where I decided to go back to school and get a professional degree. It took me about 8 years of part time school at first then full time to get through all of it. I earned a Bachelor degree in Human Biology then a Doctoral degree in Chiropractic. Graduating from it all in December of 1997 I proceeded to get married to my wonderful wife of 11 years as of this writing and promptly moved to Arizona where we have been since then.
My wife being a Chiropractor also, set up shop with me in our own clinic after a year of getting our feet wet. There we practiced together for a couple of years until our first daughter came along then she decided to be a stay at home mom, where she still is with both our daughters. I continued to run our private practice for 8 years at which time we sold it and started an Internet company which my wife operates on her own now. Since she took over I went back into Chiropractic as an associate doctor where I am currently the clinic physician at Arizona Choice Chiropractic's Buckeye location.
Health care is a very interesting field of work for me. I enjoy seeing how the inner intelligence of our bodies controls the healing process. Chiropractic is a very simple way of aiding that phenomenon by removing interference with that process. Structural problems can actually cause an interruption with the flow of communication the nervous system carries that is the instructions to our body from the brain in that wonderful cascade of intelligence. When you study health care there are two basic ways to take care of yourself. There is the medical model that treats the chemistry of your body. Your blood, your organ function such as digestion, breathing, reproduction, etc.. Then there is the chiropractic model which treats the structural aspects of your body. Shoulders, back and neck, hips and knees. Muscle spasms accompany all these structural problems and they are frequently put in place by our body as a protective mechanism to keep the joint problem from getting worse. So this is a good way to asses your situation. Also if you are trying one or two self treatments like going in for a massage, using off the shelf pain remedies, using heat or ice and the problem is not going away or it goes away and comes back chances are you have a joint problem and chiropractic is an excellent remedy for that.
I was in a near fatal car accident when I was a teenager. My back was so bad even a year afterwards that I could not tie my shoes without severe pain. My M.D. managers told me I'd be a cripple the rest of my life and basically wrote me off. That was a blessing actually because I went to see a chiropractor and have been leading a happy productive life ever since. 30 years I've been getting “adjusted”. It deflects the accumulated stress that life pours onto me. I guess it's all about balance isn't it.
